The first volume of Rearsby Registers measures 11¾ by 7¾ inches and contains 31 parchment leaves (two of them not of full size) and two paper fly leaves. The volume is in good condition and the contents readily legible. They are prefaced by the memorandum of appointment of the Parliamentarian Register,as follows :-
“These are to advertise all whome it may concerne, that George Elliott of Rearsby in this Countye of Leicester was sworne and approved of to bee the comon Register for the Parish of Rearsbie, In Testemonie whereof I Thomas Pochin Esq. one of the Justices of the peace for the same Countie witnesse my hand the 23rd day of March 1653. “Tho. Pochin.’
After this are two entries of Births, on October 18th, 1648, and August 8th, 1651, respectively ; then follows this title :—
“A true and perfect Register of all the Marriages Birthes and Buriells within the parish of Rearsby, and after the Seaven and twentieth day of January in the year of our Lord one Thousand Six Hundred fiftie & three as followeth.”
The first entry in the volume proper is a Burial, 3rd February, 1653, and the first Marriage occurs on page 2 and is dated 1st May, 1654. After 1660 the volume is in Latin until it ends in 1712.
Volume II. In parchment covers [14 5/8 by 8 5/8 inches]; originally had 44 leaves, numbered up to 88 pages; but pages 71-2-3-4 have been cut out (apparently for the sake of the parchment), no entries being missing. There are two paper fly-leaves at beginning of Book, the first containing the following note :—
“The Christenings, Burials and Marriages are placed in the same order in this Book as they were in the old Register Book, and I have assigned a distinct number of pages to the business of each office, according to the proportion of leaves which were filled in the old Book, viz: Forty Five Pages for Christenings Thirty pages for Burials and fifteen Pages for Marriages, in all ninty pages.

Volume III. Consists of parchment leaves, measuring 13 5/8 by 9¼ inches, bound in parchment boards. The pages are carefully numbered up to 74 (pages 11-16, 32, 33, 37-42, 49-66, 69 and 70, are cut away and some of the other pages are blank). Inside the first cover is written:
“This Register was purchased for the sum of One Pound five shillings by Valentine Beeson, Churchwarden.”
The Marriage entries begin at page 71, beginning in the year 1796 and ending in 1811, being in duplicate with Volume IV.
Volume IV. Is the usual book of printed forms, Banns and Marriages, consisting of 13 printed leaves and 12 plain, in a limp paper cover. It contains Marriages from 1754 to 1809, beginning with that of John Holwell in the former year and ending with Thomas Slater & Dorothy Spencer in the latter.
So far as Volumes III. and IV. are duplicates, they have been collated for the purpose of these printed abstracts and the differences noted.
Volume V. Contains Marriages from 1813 to 1837.
As Rearsby Registers do not begin until 1653, it may be mentioned that there are Transcripts at Lincoln for the years 1604, 1607 and 1608; and at Leicester for 1566, 1612, 1613, 1621, 1622, 1624 to 1629, 1632 to 1634, and 1636 to 1639.
These abstracts have been made by Mr. Matthew Pearson, of Syston, and are now printed under his supervision by permission of the Rev. T. L. George Hassall, Rector of Rearsby.
