The first volume of Hose Registers is bound in parchment covered boards, with tiestrings, and consists of only eight parchment leaves, of which the first five measure l4¼ by 7¼ inches, the sixth, which is loose, measures 12 by 7¼ inches, and the last two have had their lower halves cut away and measure only 8½ by 7¼ inches. This volume contains Baptisms and Marriages from 1688 to 1707, and Burials from 1688 to 1706. Some entries have probably been cut away. As in so many parishes in this part of Leicestershire, an earlier volume of Hose Registers has been lost. Transcripts of it for the following years survive at Lincoln and Leicester :— At Lincoln, 1604, 1606 to 1609 and 1618, At Leicester, 1581, 1590, 1612, 1613, 1621, 1622, 1625 to 1629, 1632 to 1634, 1636 to 1639, 1660 to 1662, 1670, 1674 to 1683, and 1685.
Volume II., also bound in parchment boards, consists of 37 parchment leaves measuring 11 1/8 by 7 inches and containing entries of Baptisms from 1708 to 1778; Burials from 1708 to 1783, and Marriages from 1708 to 1754. The Marriages are entered by themselves on the last three leaves. The fifth leaf from the end is occupied by a copy of a letter (undated) from the Archbishop of York to the Bishops of his Province.
Volume III. consists of 26 parchment leaves, many of them blank, measuring 12½ by 8 inches, and containing entries of Baptisms from 1778 to 1812 and Burials from 1783 to 1812, kept separately at opposite ends of the book. There is also a page of memoranda on the various parochial charities of Hose.
Volume IV., a quarto book of paper leaves bound in parchment boards, containing Marriages from 1754 to 1812 inclusive. At the other end of the volume are entries of most of the publications of Banns from 1760 to 1812.
Volume V., a folio book of paper leaves (printed forms), contains Marriages from 1813 to 1837.
These abstracts have been made by Mr. T. M. Blagg, and are now printed under his supervision by permission of the Rev. J. Williams, Vicar.
