Although there is now no Register at Hoton earlier than these, there is a transcript at Leicester for the year 1633.
The existing volumes at Hoton are as under:-
Volume I., consists of 21 leaves of parchment, including four fragments, comprising entries from 1653 to 1721, chiefly of Births, or Baptisms, and Burials, but with a few Marriages intermixed.
Volume II., also used almost entirely for Baptisms and Burials (it contains only nine Marriages), comprises 25 leaves of parchment, of which the 5th and 17th have been rather mutilated. The volume covers the period 1722 to 1778.
Volume III. is the usual Volume for the period 1754 to 1812, but contains no Marriage earlier than 1762, and only 25 in all.
Volume IV., the Marriage Volume of the usual type, for the period 1813-1837, contains only four entries, the last in 1826.
Hoton being joined with Prestwold, Marriages were mostly celebrated at that place, so that Prestwold Registers as well as Hoton, should be searched for the Marriages of Hoton people.
It will be noticed that the whole of the Marriages taking place at Hoton during the period 1754-1837, appear to have been by licence only. All Banns were apparently published, and the Marriages pertaining to them celebrated, at Prestwold.
These abstracts have been made by the Rev. R. C. Green, by permission of the Rev. C. S. Wetenhall, vicar of Prestwold.
